tertiary filtration at municipal WWTP

IN-EKO TEAM installed 13 pcs of Disc filters at a large wastewater treatment plant in Al Kharj, Saudi Arabia. Together, the filters treat a total flow of 4,901 l/s and reduce total suspended solids from an inlet concentration of 30 mg/l to an outlet concentration of ≤8 mg/l.

The installation was specifically engineered to combine high treatment capacity with reliable continuous operation, effective filter cloth cleaning and coordinated control of all filtration units.

Equipment: Disc filter
Type: 36FDG_B
Quantity: 13 pcs
Total flow: 4,901 l/s
Filter cloth: equivalent to 10 μm
TSS inlet: 30 mg/l
TSS outlet: ≤8 mg/l
Location: Al Kharj WWTP, KSA

Unlike a standard configuration with a single backwash pump, each Disc filter is equipped with two backwash pumps. This redundant setup allows the filter to remain in operation even when one of the pumps requires servicing or replacement, minimizing the risk of operational interruptions.

The filters also feature a newly designed backwash system and a secondary chemical cleaning system. Together, these systems ensure thorough cleaning of the 10 μm filter cloth and support consistently high filtration performance.

Each filter is controlled by its own local control panel and connected to a central main control panel. The main panel coordinates the operation of all 13 filters, enabling more precise monitoring and allowing the units to work together efficiently.

This coordinated operation improves the efficiency of the cleaning process, reduces energy consumption and helps maintain reliable filtration across the entire installation.
